Funeral services for Alice Gipe, age 93, of Lenox, were held Wednesday, June 9, 2004 at 2:30 p.m. at the Ritchie Funeral Home in Lenox. Interment was held in the Malvern Cemetery in Malvern. In lieu of flowers the family requested memorials be directed to the Karen Bonnett Scholarship Fund. Arrangements were by Ritchie Funeral Home of Lenox.

Alice Duncan Gipe was born April 18, 1911 in Denver, Colorado the daughter of Ad Duncan and Churstie Vatendahl Duncan. She passed away Sunday, June 6, 2004 at the Lenox Care Center.

She attended grade school and high school in Des Moines, Iowa and graduated from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, Nebraska with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree. It was while attending the university she met her future husband Everett Gipe. The couple was united in marriage on June 2, 1933 in Rock Port, Missouri. After their marriage the couple resided on the Gipe family farm located in Mills County, Iowa and it was there they raised their three children, Larry, Thomas and Karen.

Mrs. Gipe was active in community affairs in the Strahan, Iowa area and was a member of the Strahan Methodist Church. She served as Past Matron of the Order of Eastern Star in Emerson, Iowa and was once a "Mills County Homemaker of the Year." She was an accomplished artist and enjoyed painting with Oil and Watercolors.

After Mr. Gripe's death in 1972, she moved to Lenox, where she was active in community affairs and also a member of the Lenox United Methodist Church. She continued her activities as an artist.
Left to cherish her memory are her two sons, Larry Gipe of Clariston, Michigan; and Thomas Gipe and wife Carol of Edwardsville, Illinois; eight grandchildren and twenty great-grand children.

Preceding her in death were her parents Ad and Churstie, her husband Everett, daughter Karen Bonnett, and two brothers Lester Duncan and Floyd Duncan. Lenox Time Table, Lenox, Iowa Wednesday June 16, 2004
