Death of Alex Bowen
The death of Alex Bowen one of the oldest residents of the east side of the county occurred Friday of last week after a brief illness resulting from a stroke of paralysis. The deceased
came to this county nearly forty years? ago and amassed a large fortune in land and farming, residing nearly all this time on his home place southeast of Hastings. He was noted for his rugged honesty and integrity never knowingly wronging or defrauding any one but always exacting his just dues. He was never married but left the large fortune to his many relatives. Several years ago be divided up his estate comprising large land holdings in this county and some in Nebraska, retaining rental of same during his life.

The funeral occurred from his late residence Sunday morning and was conducted by Rev. C. M. Oline of the Emerson Baptist church and was largely attended by his old friends and neighbors. He was buried in the North Grove cemetery near his home. Thus passes another of Mills county's pioneers.
