Services Held Here for Mrs. Sarah E. Suits

One of Malvern's Oldest Citizens Buried Monday

Death took Malvern's oldest resident New Years eve when Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth Suits died at the home of her daughter. The daughter of Jacob and Elizabeth Rhodes, she was born in Wayne County Ia., Nov.27, 1858. She was married to Moses Franklin Beckwith of Shenandoah, Nov. 26, 1879. To them two children were born, Lillie Belle Allely and John Beckwith, both of Malvern.
The family moved to Malvern in 1984 where Mr. Beckwith passed away on Dec. 7, 1907. On Jan. 26, 1910, Mrs. Beckwith became the wife of John H. Suits, who preceded her in death March 18, 1931.
She was a member of the Methodist church and until recent years, an active member of the Eastern Star, having served as treasurer of the Order for a number of years.
She passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Allely, Dec. 31, 1949, at the age of 91 years, 1 month and four days.
During her long residence in this community she ---- many---------------------------------------
to her devotion to her home and family. Among the things she enjoyed were the great hymns of the church, art and good books.
She is survived by her daughter and son, two grandsons, Harry Allely of Omaha and Dr. James Beckwith of Malvern; three great grandchildren, Michael Allely and Ann and Lura Lee Beckwith. She was also a grandmother to the three children raised by Mrs. Allely, Lisle Allely, Randolph; Lillian Barkus, Santa Barbara, Calif.;and Erma Williams, Omaha.
Funeral services were held Monday morning at the Mansfield Funeral Home and were attended by an exceptionally large group of friends. They were conducted by the Rev. J.M. Strong and the Rev. N.B. Blackman.
Serving as casket bearers were J.F. Wearin, E.W. Knight, J.R. Hall, F.R. Chantry, J.E. Randerson, R.A. Bloedel. Blanche Emerick, Helen Nagle and Sadye McIntyre cared for the flowers. Mrs. C.D. Costello, accompanied by Mrs. Grace Donner, sang.
Burial was in the Malvern cemetery.
