Death Of Old Veteran. John W. Anthony Passed Away at Glenwood Wednesday.

John W. Anthony died at his home in Glenwood about 5 o'clock Wednesday afternoon.

He was not only an old soldier but was one of the early-day settlers of Mills county, coming here with his parents in June, 1850. He was then less than a year old.

Three of his brothers survive him, N.M. of Hillsdale, J.M. of Center and J.S. of Glenwood. J.W. Anthony still resided on the old home place.

The deceased, at the breaking out of the civil war, had lived in Kansas a few months. He served three years in company B of the 12th Kansas infantry, being a corporal when discharged.

At the time of his death he was drawing the heaviest pension of anyone in Mills county - $100 a month. This was for "total disability, " he having been blind for about 25 years. His blindness resulted from a disease contracted in the army.

The pension of $100 a month had been in force only a little more than a year, previous to which he drew $72 a month for a few years.

A wife (whose maiden name was Susan Scott) survives him, also six children, namely Wilbert (residing in Idaho), John L., Hill and Clarence and Miss Bessie Anthony and Mrs. Arthur Bennett of Glenwood.

The funeral will be held Saturday morning at 10 o'clock at the Christian church.
