Mills County Tribune
Dec. 4, 1916

Otis S. Albee, of whose death The Tribune made mention in its Thanksgiving edition, was born in Portland, Maine, May 21, 1846, and died at his home in Glenwood, Iowa, November 28, 1916, aged 70 years 6 months and 24 days.

In early youth he came with his parents to New Boston, Illinois, and in that vicinity his youth and manhood was spent.

Mr. Albee answered the call to serve his country in the Civil War, and in June 1864 enlisted in Company K 102nd Illinois Infantry. He was honorably discharged in June, 1865, because of disability.

He was united in marriage at Andalusia, Illinois, to Lydia V. Babbitt on June 9, 1875. To this union five children were born, four of whom survive the father. The children are Mrs. John Roy of Omaha, Frank Allbee of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Earl Allbee of Omaha, and William P. Allbee of Glenwood. The oldest son, James Edwin, died at the age of 18 years.

Mr. Allbee moved his family from Millersburg, Illinois, in August 1892 to Glenwood. The trip was made overland in covered wagons. The company comprised Mr. and Mrs. Albee and five children and Mr. and Mrs. Kirkpatrick, parents of Mrs. Allbee.

The deceased was a member of the G.A.R. post of New Boston, Illinois.

Mr. and Mrs. Allbee have lived continuously in Glenwood since their coming here, now 24 years.

A coincident of Mr. Albee's death is noted in that Mrs. Allbee's sister-in-law at New Boston, Illinois, was prevented from coming to the funeral here by the death of her brother, which occurred at nearly the same minute of the same day, one dying at 7:45 and the other, Mr. Allbee, 7:30 A.M. The funerals occurred the same hour of the same day.

Funeral services of Mr. Allbee were held Wednesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Stevenson of the Glenwood M.E. church. Burial was in the Glenwood cemetery and the G.A.R. boys of Glenwood attended and acted as honorary pallbearers.

Mr. Allbee, through the ministrations of the Glenwood gospel team, accepted Christ as his Savior some weeks previous to his death.
