The Malvern Leader
July 28, 1932

Another Pioneer Called To Reward

Mrs. L.C. Alexander, mention of whose serious illness was made in last week's Leader, passed away at her home south east of Silver City Thursday, July 21. She had lived in Mills county since 1871 or more than sixty years.
Funeral services held in the Methodist church in Silver City, were largely attended by old friends and neighbors. They were conducted by the Rev. F.G. Barnes, pastor of the Silver City church, assisted by Rev. L.D. Thomas of the Wesley Chapel church. Interment was in the Silver City cemetery.
The following obituary was given;
Mary Etta, the daughter of Samson and Lettie Howard, was born July 26, 1862, in Elmore, Ottoway county, Ohio, and passed away on July 21, 1932, at her home southeast of Silver City. She would have reached her seventieth birthday.
At the age of nine years she came with her parents to Iowa and settled on a farm north of Malvern, Iowa. On Feb. 11, 1883, she was united in marriage to Layfette Charles Alexander at Malvern, Iowa. To this union were born ten children: Olive and Howard, Shenendoah; Harry, Tarkio, Mo.; Ona, Glenwood; Harry, Tarkio, Mo., Frank, Henderson; Fred, Ora, Faye and Charles, Malvern; and Fern of Silver City.
There are left to mourn her passing her ten children, five sons-in-law, four daughters-in- law, twenty five grandchildren, two sisters, seven brothers, and a host of relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother, one sister, Daisy, and her husband, who died Jan. 16, 1931.
Mrs. Alexander was a faithful wife, a good mother, a helpful neighbor, always ready to do or to give of anything she had for the benefit of others. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Mother, Mother
Sweetest name on earth,
She who did so much for us;
She who gave us birth.

Now we miss your smiling face,
Your voice so soft and sweet;
The warm clasp of your loving hands,
The sound of busy feet.

But God is good, we praise His name,
For giving us a Mother;
Whose deeds of love will live through life,
And cheer, as can no other.

God took her home, He knew her best,
Her toils on earth are ended;
She's singing with the Angels now;
Her voice with theirs is blended.
