Van Orsdal, William Eugene -
William Eugene VanOrsdal, the son of William Jacob and Lottie Mabel Plumb VanOrsdal, was born near Malvern, Iowa January 14, 1912. He died at McCuistlon Hospital in Paris, Texas on Tuesday, August 3 at the age of seventy years, six months and twenty-nine days.
At the time of his death, Mr. and Mrs. VanOrsdal were visiting their daughter, Joyce and family.
Eugene became a member of the Hillsdale United Methodist Church at an early age. He attended the Hillside Country School and graduated from Malvern High School in 1930.
In 1935, Mr. VanOrsdal was united in marriage with Mabel LuAnna Coffey at Omaha, Nebraska. The couple moved to a farm adjoining his father's farm and they continued farming together. In 1946, the family moved to a farm near Lenox, Iowa. Following the death of his father in 1957, they returned to the family farm for ten years until ill health forced them to move back to the farm near Lenox.
Survivors include his wife, Mabel of Lenox; three daughters, Marlene Buchanan and husband, Richard of Westminister, Colorado, Joyce Andrew and husband, Jerry of Paris, Texas and Jean Geisler and husband, Melvin of Boise, Idaho; four
grandsons. Tracy and Douglas Geisler of Boise, Gregory Buchanan of Westminister, and Michael Andrew of Estherville, Iowa; two granddaughters, Debra Geisler Moore of Boise and Jacqualine Andrew Cantrell of Paris, Texas; two grandsons-in-law, Jerron Moore and Mark Cantrell; a great grandson, Curtis Merron Moore; two sisters, Marjorie Williams of Hastings, Iowa and Maxine Raine of Gonzales, California; two nieces and one nephew, and several cousins.
Services were held Saturday, August 7 at 9:30 a.m. at the Larkin-Bender Funeral Home in Lenox. Reverend Lester Hessletine, pastor of the Lenox United Methodist Church, officiated.
Music was furnished by Norma Paymal, organist.
Services were also held at the Hillsdale United Methodist Church at 1:30 p.m. Reverend Charles Cowell, pastor of the Malvern United Methodist Church, officiated.
Florence Brower was the organist. Vocalists were Arlene Hilton and Margaret Helen Bloomer. The selections were "Beyond the Sunset"and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere".
Casket bearers were Gene Kelly, Ben Jackson, Bill Barber, Art Theischiefer, Carl Buch, and Don Shade.
Interment was in the Malvern Cemetery at Malvern, Iowa.
