Obituary of Almon Parker Reeve:
(Note regarding source: I have an original newspaper clipping of the obituary which was probably printed in May of 1935. The name of the newspaper and exact date of publication is unknown. From the context of the article, the paper was likely published at Silver City, Iowa or nearby.)

Heading: FUNERAL SERVICES HELD FRIDAY FOR A. P. REEVE

Funeral services were held Friday, the 17th of May in the Methodist church, for A. P. Reeve, who passed away at his home here, Tuesday, May 14th. The services were conducted by Rev. Grant Parker, of the Denison M. E. Church, and Rev. Howard P. Young, pastor of the Silver City M. E. Church.

Music was rendered by a mixed quartette, consisting of Mrs. Guy Parker, Miss Alice Kegley, Guy Parker, and R. P. Galt, accompanied by Mrs R. P. Galt.

Pall bearers were: Wm. Burgoin, Wm. Pollitt, Guy Custer, Robert McKenzie, Wm. Bond, Chas. Sell, Dave Merk and Chas. Moore.

The four remaining children, Ruth, Charles, Paul and Alice were present at the funeral, also one grandson, Almon I. Reeve, of Ponca, Nebr., and his mother, Mary Reeve Stacey. Other relatives present were a sister-in-law, Mrs. Mary Reeve of Windom, Minn., and her sons, Cliff and William Reeve.

Interment was made in Silver City cemetery with services conducted by I.O.O.F. lodge No. 40.

Almon Parker Reeve, son of William and Sarah Wilson Reeve, was born at Granville, Illinois, on February 17th, 1859 and died May 14th 1935 at his home in Silver City, Iowa at the age of 76 years, 2 months and 27 days.

He spent his youth and early manhood in Illinois coming to Silver City at the age of 22, and living here since that time. He was married at Glenwood, Iowa, Nov. 3rd 1886, to Marie Bonner, who preceded him in death on February 8th, 1924. Six children were born to them: Sadie B. who died Dec. 28th, 1918; Clark, who died April 2nd, 1913; Mrs. Ruth Captain of Salt Lake City, Utah; Charles of Omaha, Nebr., Paul of Portland, Oregon; and Alice of New York. He is also survived by one brother, L. L. Reeve, of Streator, Illinois and seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Having been a resident of this community for more than half a century, Mr. Reeve held many positions of trust in the business and professional life of the town and county. As a young man he worked for C. D. Greenwood in the lumber yard, and later went into the elevator business with Webster Mains, the firm name being Mains and Reeve. He was in the hardware business for a time, and then established his real estate and insurance business, which he continued up to the time of his death. He held various responsible positions, such as Councilman, Secretary of the School Board, Township Clerk, etc., and was often urged by his friends to enter into the larger political life of the state. He was devoted to the interests of his home town, and community, and his advice and assistance was freely given in various projects for community welfare.

He was a member of the I.O.O.F. for 48 years, was also a member of the Modern Woodmen and the Royal Neighbors. For many years he was interested in music in both the church and community affairs. Since he was a boy of fourteen, when he acted as organist in the old church of Chatsworth, Illinois, he has given his voice and talent to the church in choir work, and for more than fifty years has always taken his place in the Methodist choir. He was also leader of the first band organized in Silver City.

He was a member of the Methodist church, and of the board of trustees of the church. His faithfulness in the service of the church, the fraternal organizations and the public life of the town make it difficult to find someone to fill the places in which he so ably served the community.
