Mrs. J.A. Thorson, Mrs. Hebe Edie, A.F. Smith and R.L. Fields sang with Mrs. R.R. Honeyman at the organ. The Woman’s Relief Corps gave a service at the church. Claude Burns served as usher.

The following life sketch was read:

Ida Mae Allen, daughter of Sherman and Mary Turner Allen, was born Sept. 15, 1856. She departed this life at her home in Emerson, March 29, 1942, aged 85 years, six months and 14 days. She was born in Ulster county, N.Y., and was the seventh child of a family of nine. All preceded her in death except one sister Alice who is two years older and lives in New York.

She grew to womanhood while still living in New York. She came to Iowa as a young woman and spent a number of years as a school teacher in the schools of Mills, Montgomery and Fremont counties.

Aug. 10, 1887 she was married to William Arthur Young at Imogene. This union was soon broken by the death of her husband. Following Mr. Young’s death she again resumed her home with two sisters in Emerson until June 20, 1906, when she was united in marriage with Samuel G. Steen of Emerson. Mr. Steen passed away Sept. 30, 1911.

Since that time Mrs. Steen has made her home in Emerson where she took an active part and interest in the affairs of the community until her health failed about six years ago. Since then she had been a shut-in invalid.

Mrs. Steen joined the Woman’s Relief Corps of Emerson July 7, 1906. The following year she was elected president in which capacity she served for two years. In 1909 she was elected secretary of the Corps and held that office for eight consecutive years. She also served on various committees of the Corps and as long as her health permitted was a faithful member and worker in that organization.

Mrs. Steen united with the Methodist Church at an early age and at the time of her death was a member of the Emerson Methodist church which she joined in 1894. She was always a faithful worker and lived a devoted Christian life. Her usefulness in the church is evidenced by the various offices she held, which responsibilities she always discharged with efficiency, fidelity and care. At various times she was a trustee, a steward, secretary of the quarterly conference and president of the Woman’s Foreign Missionary Society. For a number of years she was a teacher in the Sunday school. She was a member of the building committee that supervised the erection of the present Emerson Methodist church.

She is survived by one sister and a number of nephews and nieces.

Burial was in the Emerson cemetery with the Comer Funeral Home in charge.
