GLENWOOD OPINION-TRIBUNE
DATED MONDAY, FEBRUARY 22, 1932:John William Schroeder, the son of Christian and Mary Schroeder was born in Warren county, Ill., July 5, 1869, and after a long illness passed away on Feb. 13, 1932, at the Clarkson hospital in Omaha, at the age of 62 years 7 months and 8 days.
At the age of 14 he moved with his parents to Mills county, Iowa, and settled on the farm near Silver City which he owned at the time of his death. Here he lived until Feb. 28, 1922, when he was united in marriage to Grace Mae Teatsworth and moved to Silver City.
In the passing of John Schroeder Mills county has lost one of our best citizens. He was always ready and willing to help where the betterment of the community was concerned. He was a kindly man, loved by young and old, and was especially loved by little children. He gave of the best he had in him that others might be benefited.
Mr. Schroeder had been in failing health for he past nine months. At times his suffering was intense but he bore it with the same patience which has always marked his life.
Besides his widow he leaves four sisters: Mrs. T. E. McClure of Malvern; Mrs. George Howard of Glenwood; Mrs. Fannie Meeks of Silver City; Mrs. Homer Clipson of Tabor; two sisters, Mrs. Lucy Howard and Mrs. Anna McClure, preceded him in death. He also leaves a number of nieces and nephews and hundreds of friends.
Funeral services were held in the Methodist church in Silver City on Tuesday afternoon with Rev. F. G. Barnes in charge. Music for the service was furnished by R. P. Galt, Roscoe Anderson, Harold Galt and A. P. Reeves, with Mrs. Galt at the piano.
The beautiful floral tributes and the large number of persons who attended the funeral bespoke the esteem in which Mr. Schroeder was held. The pallbearers were Dale McClure, Amos Meeks, Glen McClure, Edwin Howard, Frank Follett and Wayne Meeks. The flower girls were Arlene Howard, Ferne Mayberry, Eva Long and Helen Clipson.
The body was laid to rest in the Silver City cemetery.
