DATED WED., JULY 19, 1995:

Berwyn H. Hamilton, 87, of Glenwood died July 13, 1995, at Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs. Funeral services were Monday at First Baptist Church in Glenwood. Interment was at Glenwood Cemetery with Rev. Richard T. Wheatley officiating.

Mr. Hamilton was born July 6, 1908 in Glenwood to Charles P. (Jack) and Ida May Wrenwick Hamilton. He graduated from Glenwood High School and worked for a short time in his father’s clothing store, then worked five years in the Mills County National Bank as assistant cashier. He rejoined his father, who was in failing health, in the mens wear business and remained in the business (first as a partner, then as sole owner and operator) for 46 years. He sold his business and retired on March 5, 1980.

Mr. Hamilton served in the Navy during World War II as storekeeper aviation second class. He served in Farragut, Idaho, Pearl Harbor, Okinawa and the Great Lakes Naval Station. On June 12, 1949, he married Mildred M. Heck.

He formerly was Master of the Masonic Lodge, High Priest of the Royal Arch Masons, Worthy Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star, president of the Glenwood Rotary Club, Commander of the American Legion, a 50-year member of all of these bodies, a life-member of the Tangier Shrine, a member of the First Baptist Church in Glenwood for more than 65 years where he served as Deacon for 16 years, treasurer for 13 years, trustee, finance committee and other committees.

Mr. Hamilton was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, John and George Hamilton, and one sister, Pauline DeMoss. Survivors include his wife, Mildred; son, Bruce H. Hamilton of Janesville, Wisc.; daughter, Linda Hamilton of Fair Oaks, Calif.; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Memorials are suggested to First Baptist Church.

Peterson Mortuary was in charge of services.
