William Rager passed away last Thursday, February 20, at the soldiers' home at Marshalltown.

William Rager was born March 4, 1843, in Indiana and when still a small boy moved with his parents to Victoria, Illinois. Here he was married to Lera Smith. Two children were born to this union, Sammy, who died at the age of nine years, and Mrs. Ben Hooker, who still survives him. The wife and mother also died at this place, and on April 12, 1875, he was again married to Hannah C. Newman. They immediately removed to Glenwood, Iowa. which place has since been their home. Here five children were born, Lillie who died at the age of twenty-one, Harry, Albert, Clay, Eines and Rose who with their mother survive him.

Mr. Rager was a veteran of the civil war having served three years as a private in Company D, Forty-seventh Illinois regiment. He was a faithful member of the Holiness church. About six years ago he was stricken with paralysis and although his suffering has been intense he has been patient and cheerful and was eagerly waiting for the final roll call from above.
