DEATH ANGEL CLAIMS SPIRIT OF J.R. HUBBELL

Well Known Glenwood Resident Passed Away at His Home in This City Sunday Morning.

The people of Glenwood were shocked Sunday morning to learn that the death angel had crossed the threshold of the J.R. Hubbell home in this city during the night and claimed the spirit of the husband and father in that home. It had been quite generally known that Mr. Hubbell was in failing health, but that his condition was considered critical was known only to relatives and a few intimate friends.

In the passing of J.R. Hubbell Glenwood loses another of its long time pioneer residents, a man who had the respect of the entire community who has stood for the best things in life, giving freely of his time to further the cause of right as he saw it. Funeral services were held from the home on Monday afternoon with Rev. J.F. Stille officiating. Music was furnished by Mr. and Mrs. F.V. Kemp, Mrs. O. Altekruse and Shirley Gillilland. During the service the following brief history was read by the pastor.

J.R. Hubbell, eldest child of Garret V. and Elizabeth Hubbell was born June 16, 1851 in Miami county, Ohio and died June 5, 1926 at his home in Glenwood. Had he lived until June 16, he would have reached the advanced age of 75 years. On December 25, 1871 he was united in marriage with Mary A. Peppers, and to this union there was born eight children, five of whom preceded the father in death. Those left to mourn his departure, besides his wife, are one daughter, Mrs. L.V. Davis of Sedgwick, Colo., two sons, Harry A. Hubbell of Glenwood and Alfred C. Hubbell of Albert Lea, Minn. He also leave eight grandchildren, one great grandchild, two brothers and three sisters besides other relatives and a very large circle of friends.

In 1872 J.R. Hubbell and wife, Garrett V. Hubbell and wife, and three neighbor families loaded their household goods and started west. They located in Hamilton county, Neb., but after a few years they returned to Mills county where they have continued to make their home.

Mr. Hubbell was an active member of the Methodist church in this city until failing health made it impossible for him to attend. Interment was made in the Glenwood cemetery where the beautiful ritualistic service of the I.O.O.F. order was held at the grave, participated in by a goodly number of his fellow members, six of whom served as pallbearers, Dr. B.F. Ward, E.E. Barber, Carl Spetman, S. Harrod, L.C. Adams and T.L. Caley.

Relatives from a distance in attendance at the services were Mr. and Mrs. J.J. Hubbell of Holmesville, Neb., Mr. and Mrs. C.R. Rhoades of Shenandoah, Mrs. L.V. Davies of Sedgwick, Colo., Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Hubbell, of Polk, Neb.

Card of Thanks -- We wish to express our sincere thanks and appreciation for the many kind acts, and sympathy extended during our recent bereavement, especially do we wish to thank the singers, the I.O.O.F. lodge, and other orders.
