GLENWOOD OPINION-TRIBUNE
DATED APRIL 29, 1948:Harvey Slaughter, son of Fred and Mary Slaughter, was born Feb. 14, 1884 in Mills County, Ia., south of Silver City on the farm which his father had homesteaded.
He departed this life in a Council Bluffs hospital of a heart attack April 24, 1948, at the age of 64 years, 2 months and 10 days.
He was united in marriage March 25, 1908, to Lura Alice Hunt. To this union three children were born, Lura Edith, Paul Erwin and Wauneta Fern.
Mr. and Mrs. Slaughter have spent all their married life together on a farm near Glenwood until in Feb. 1947, they retired to a home in Glenwood when Mr. Slaughter’s health was failing.
He was affiliated with the Wesley Chapel church, they having lived in that community.
He was a highly respected much loved man of his friends and family, always making an effort to provide well for those who were dependent upon him.
He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Alice; three children, Mrs. Glen Bryant, Mr. Paul Slaughter, and Mrs. Wayne Paxton, and one grandson Bernard Bryant, all of Silver City, Iowa.
One brother, and four sisters namely, Marvel Slaughter, Clara Riley, and Etta Bomer, all of Fresno, Calif., Phannie Walker of Malvern, Iowa, and Lucinda Emerine of Council Bluffs, Iowa.
Services were held on Tuesday, April 27, from the Raynor Chapel with the Rev. R. V. Felt officiating.
Music was furnished by Mary Evelyn Logan.
Casket bearers were Charles Reynolds, Charles Parker, Louie Goos, Milton Latchaw, Oscar Mintle and John Skinner.
Flower bearers were Mr. and Mrs. Drayton Slaughter and Mr. and Mrs. L. E. Chrisinger.
Last resting place was in the Glenwood cemetery.
