THE TABOR BEACON
DATED AUGUST 24, 1944:Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 22, at 2:30 p.m. from Reeves Funeral home for William E. Boyd, who died August 21, at his home in Tabor. Rev. Peter Jacobs officiated at the service and interment was in Fairview cemetery.
William Elzie Boyd, son of James and Elizabeth Wolfe (Boyd) , was born December 1, 1862, four miles north of Tabor on the Boyd homestead. He was the third child but the first boy in the family of five, three girls and two boys. He obtained his education at Fairview. He was a farmer for many years.
On September 11, 1890, he was united in marriage with Miss Emma Garrett. This young couple drove a team and buggy to Omaha for a wedding trip and stayed several days, then they returned to the farm where the family of six--- Fern, Fred, Ira, Jamie (who died when five years old), Grace and Lisle---were born. All attended the Fairview school.
In 1908 they moved to Tabor so that the children could have the advantages of the high school and each of them graduated. In 1916 the family moved to Laurel, Montana, where they operated a ranch, raising beef, wheat and hay. They later returned to the central states, spending some time in Omaha, and have lived in Tabor since 1941.
His special interests were cattle feeding, along with farming, trap shooting and hunting ducks and geese.
He is survived by his wife, Emma, of Tabor; daughters, Fern Young, Eelmonte, California, Grace Morgan, Vancouver, Washington; sons, Fred, Forsythe, Montana, Ira, Laurel, Montana, Lisle, Silesia, Montana; eight grandchildren --- four grandsons and four granddaughters; and one great granddaughter.
He was in poor health for 4 years, and his last illness started six weeks ago.
