THE MALVERN LEADER
DATED OCTOBER 23, 1930:Prominent Pioneer Citizen
of Mills County Passed
Away Oct. 14William Clay DeLashmutt, a member of one of Mills county's most prominent pioneer families and one of Glenwood's dearly respected citizens, passed away at his home on North Vine street in the early morning hours of Oct. 14 at the age of eighty-six years. While Mr. DeLashmutt had been in failing health for some time, his death came as a shock to his many friends.
During the intense heat of the summer, his condition became critical, but with the coming of the cooler weather, his old time vigor had apparently returned, but on Saturday of last week he suffered a stroke from which he never rallied.
Mr. DeLashmutt ever took an active interest in the public life of the community, having served many years as a member of the county board and later for several successive terms he served as one of the county's most outstanding sheriffs, and had retained an intense interest in all political and public activities throughout his advanced years.
He is survived by his wife and one son, Ernest DeLashmutt, of Omaha, and two daughters, Mrs. Jessie Stone of Phoenix, Ariz., and Mrs. C. E. Dean of this city.
Funeral services were held this Thursday, afternoon from the home with Rev. J. F. Stille, pastor of the West Oak Baptist church, in charge.-- Opinion.
