GLENWOOD OPINION TRIBUNE
DATED JANUARY 9, 1924The Omaha papers Monday carried the news of the death of a former Malvern girl, Mrs. Garriel Bird, daughter of William Windom of that city who died at the Jefferson hotel in Omaha Sunday after drinking poison. Mr. and Mrs. Bird had been married some two years and had just recently gone to Omaha to secure work. She is reported to have secured a position as a waitress in a cafe and was to start work Monday but had been in a despondent mood for some time and on Sunday afternoon when her husband returned he found her vomiting and called a physician, but she passed away shortly after his arrival.
The body will be brought to Malvern where services will probably be held this Wednesday.
THE MALVERN LEADER
DATED JANUARY 10, 1924:Monday morning’s daily papers contained the news of the death of a young wife, a former resident of Malvern, Mrs. Edith Windom-Bird, supposedly from suicide at a hotel in Omaha, Sunday afternoon.
Her husband, Garriel Bird also a former resident of this vicinity came into their room at the Jefferson hotel and found her in great agony and she told him she had taken poison but that she wanted to get well. He hurried for a doctor and antidotes but it was too late and she died shortly after the doctor arrived without being conscious enough to give any cause for the rash deed.
The remains were brought to Malvern yesterday morning and funeral services held from the Presbyterian church in the afternoon conducted by Rev. J. E. Wilkins.
Edith May Windom, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Windom, was born in Malvern, September 15, 1902 and spent practically her entire life in this vicinity. She was married to Garriel Bird about a year ago and they were living in Omaha at the time of her death.
The stricken relatives have the sympathy of all in their bereavement and sorrow.
