OPINION TRIBUNE
DATED JANUARY 8, 1942:

A former Malvern man, Garriel “Pete” Bird, 45, died Tuesday afternoon at the Nicholas Senn Hospital in Omaha of bullet wounds received Sunday when he was shot by Thomas W. Yates in Council Bluffs at the home of Yates.

Bird demanded entrance to the Yates home and when it was denied he attempted to enter. Yates then shot Bird over the heart with a shotgun. The wounded man returned to Omaha and went to the hospital where he died.

Mr. Bird is the son of Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Bird, who live north of Malvern, and is a brother of M. C. Bird of this city.

Garriel Henry Bird is buried in Mills County, Iowa in the East Liberty Cemetery, Section 3, Row 2.
