Leland (Lee) Dwight Shepard, son of Arleigh and Pearl Shepard, was born in Mills County near Malvern on November 11, 1925. He grew to manhood living on many different farms, going to country schools and Randolph High School. He graduated in 1943 from Glenwood High. Lee worked in the Bomber plant in Omaha and at home in farming with his parents until May 9, 1948 when he was married to Shirley Harrington of Tabor. They continued to farm for seven years, moving to town in 1955. Four children were born to this union. One son, Allen Kent Shepard of Ketchilcan, Alaska, Carol Lee Shepard of St. Petersburg, Florida, Laura Turney of Willow River British Columbia in Canada and Annette Shepard of Prince George British Columbia in Canada. In 1954 Lee went to work for Allied Chemical in LaPlatte, Nebraska. He worked there for 25 years until he was put on Long Term Disability.

Shirley and Lee wintered in St. Petersburg, Florida for ten years until cancer took over his life.

Lee is survived by his mother Pearl of Glenwood, brothers Richard of Yuma, Arizona, Roger of Delta Colorado; loving wife Shirley, four children, seven grandchildren and many friends. He was an Honorary Fireman and a past K.P. member, a loving father and husband, and will be missed by many. Lee died at his home as he wanted to on February 5, 1991.
