Services were Thursday for Margaret (Maggie) Horton who died June 25 at a Council Bluffs hospital.

A lifelong resident of Southwest Iowa, Mrs. Horton was born March 15, 1892 in Council Bluffs, to William S. and Rachel Ann Ellis Haney. She married Harry B. Epperson in April 1913 and had two sons, Haney B. and Forrest H. Epperson.

On Jan. 14, 1920, she married Francis Milton Horton and from that union came two daughters, Rachel J. and Janice F. Mr. Horton farmed in Mills County through most of their married life while she worked at the Glenwood State School and was a charter member of the grandparents program in the 1960’s.

Mrs. Horton was affiliated with the Rebekah Lodge, the senior citizens and the First Baptist Church of Glenwood.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband Francis, seven brothers, two sisters and one grandson.

Survivors include two sons, Haney B. of Council Bluffs and Forrest H. Epperson of Manteca, Cal.; two daughters, Rachel J. Wendell of Council Bluffs and Janice F. Vinton of Glenwood; twenty grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.

Services were conducted by the Rev. Arthur Marston and the Rev. Clyde Harmon at the Peterson Mortuary in Glenwood. Burial was in Glenwood Cemetery.

Casket bearers were Nathan Lidgett, George Epperson, Max and Eric Johnson, Larry Lidgett and Gary Vinton.

Flower bearers were Mrs. Max (Cindy) Johnson, Mrs. Larry (Cheryl) Lidgett and Mrs. Nathan (Mary) Lidgett.

Music was provided by Mrs. Dean Dusenberry, organist, and Neil McPherron, soloist. Special selections were “In the Garden” and “Beyond the Sunset.”
