Ernest Raymond Boyce, son of E. G. and Effie Sebern Boyce, was born on July 18, 1893, at Glenwood. He was one of a family of 11 children. He attended the schools of Mills County and had been a lifelong resident of this area.
He was a farmer and spent his life with the soil until his retirement and subsequent moving to town in Glenwood in 1958.
After moving here, he was an active employee of the Glenwood Nerve Center which keeps track of and dispatches police and fire equipment.
He was a member of the Methodist Church.
He was married June 24, 1916, at Glenwood to Marie Lohse, and just recently--on June 24 of this year, Mr. and Mrs. Boyce celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
To the union were born two daughters, Aileen, now Mrs. Leo May of Silver City, and Mary, now Mrs. Keith Bruce of Hastings.
Ernest served with Company I for four years and saw duty in the service of his country on the Mexican border in 1916.
He suffered a stroke last Thursday morning and was taken to the Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs where he died Saturday morning.
Surviving are his wife, Marie; his two daughters; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. There also are three brothers--Robert Boyce of Ainsworth, Neb., Ferdinand Boyce of Glenwood and Charles Boyce of Omaha, and three sisters, Mrs. Ivan White and Mrs. Norman Benedict of Glenwood and Mrs. Walter Knoll of Seattle Wash.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a sister while they were yet infants and by a brother Elmer and a sister Irene.
Services were held Tuesday afternoon from Raymor, Lett and Kent Funeral Home with the Rev. C. F. Waterman officating. Music was by Mr. and Mrs. Frank L. Griffith, Sr., and Mrs. Dean Dusenberry.
Flower bearers were Kay Bruce, Mrs. Jack May, Mrs. Larry Hayes and Mary Ann May.
Pallbearers were Duane Benedict, Ross Boyce, David Bruce, Larry Hayes, Jack May and George White. Burial was in Glenwood cemetery.
