Funeral Services Held Sunday for William Harless

Prominent Longtime Resident of Bartlett Community Passed Away Last Thursday at the Age of 82 Years.

Funeral services for William Harless, 82, well known longtime resident of the Barlett community were held Sunday afternoon at the Thurman Methodist church with the Raynor funeral home of Glenwood in charge of the service. Reverend Floyd Shepard of Ankeny delivered the funeral sermon.

Music for the service was furnished by Mrs. Davidson, Mrs. Jessie Brown with Miss Clausen at the piano. The ladies in charge of the floral tributes were Gail Leeka and Glee Leeka. The pallbearers were Frank King, John King, Maurice King, Earnest Harless, Eamer Harless and Everett Harless. The body was laid to reat in the Glenwood cemetery.

William Harless, son of Silas and Sarah Harless, was born in Wayne county, Iowa on January 5, 1859.

In the Spring of 1884, he was united in marriage to Lucy Kiln at Geneva, Nebraska. Two children were born to this union. The daughter died in infancy and Floyd passed away at the age of 14 years. His wife, Lucy, passed away January 24, 1939.

One year after his marriage Mr. Harless and his wife, came back to Iowa, locating near Percival. In 1906, he bought a farm one mile north of Bartlett. This has since been his home.

Mr. Harless was a member of the Christian church of Barlett.

He has been in failing health for the past five years. One month ago, he entered the Jennie Edmundson hospital of Council Bluffs. Later he came to Glenwood but had to be taken back to the hospital a few days before he died, on November 13, 1941, at the age of 82 years, 10 months and 8 days.

He leaves to morn his passing one brother, Charles Harless of Bartlett, one sister, Mrs. Anna Woodrum of Los Angeles, California, and many nieces and nephews.
