While still a small child he moved with his parents to Werley, Wis., where they lived until he was 16 years old. He and his parents then moved by covered wagon to Jerome, Kansas, where he and his father later homesteaded. After many hardships he and his parents moved to Iowa. At the age of 24, he was united in marriage to Annie Effie Epperson at Pacific Junction, Iowa, Jan. 30, 1890, where they spent their entire married life. Also a foster child Mrs. Hazel Raymond of Pacific Junction, Iowa, whom they reared from childhood. He leaves to mourn: his widow, four children, one brother, Eugene Hunter of Pacific Junction, Iowa, 31 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a host of friends and neighbors. Jack, as he was known by all his friends, was a loving husband and father. He was a man of kindly and genial disposition, a generous neighor and a faithful friend. His departure is a significant loss to his home and this community.
