Birthday Celebration For J.W. Mickelwait

Glenwood Opinion Tribune
August 21, 1939

J.W. Mickelwait, one of Glenwood's pioneer residents, arrived at the 89th milestone in his life's journey Saturday, Aug. 19. The occasion was made most enjoyable for him, by telephone calls and personal calls from longtime friends, some twenty-five of whom called to congratulate him and remember him with token of love.

It was indeed a happy day for this fine old gentleman, who has been privileged to live to see great changes in this, his home town. He greatly enjoyed visiting with all who called and will ever carry happy memories of their thoughtfulness.

His daughter, Mrs. Jennie Hamilton, with whom he makes his home, served cake and ice cream and punch to each caller, and also planned an extra surprise for him for the following evening by entertaining at a family dinner in his honor. Relatives from Omaha were Mrs. Mary Vanderford and Mr. and Mrs. Edd Rager, also his son and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Joy Mickelwait of this city, and others to the number of ten, making a merry family dinner party, a pleasing finale to these birthday celebrations.
