BEQUESTS NOW TO BECOME AVAILABLE

Supreme Court Affirms Will of Mrs. Elizabeth Martin of Platteville Township

The supreme court has affirmed the decision of the District court in the contest over the will of the late Mrs. M.J. (Elizabeth) Martin of Platteville township.

The contest was brought by heirs who alleged that undue influence was used to induce her to bequeath money to public institutions and particularly a bequest of $15,000 for a Young Men's Christian Association for Glenwood.

The District Court upheld the will and the supreme court affirms this. The bequests have been held up pending the result of the contest, but will now become available for the beneficiaries unless further contest is made.

The bequests also included $5,000 for the Glenwood public library, $ 4,000 to Martin's chapel, $2,000 each to the Methodist Hospital at Omaha and the Jennie Edmundson Hospital at Council Bluffs, $2,000 to Mrs. Annie Kemp, $500 each to her nephew James Rhoades, her niece Luella Vinton and Marian Kemp, $1,000 to be divided among the children of her deceased sister Jane Hoey, and $1,000 to the children of her deceased brother Harrison Powell.
