November 20, 1902

Mr. and Mrs. Wm Ronemus celebrated their golden wedding last Tuesday evening, at their home north of the High school, about forty of their friends assembling at 4 o’clock in response to invitations to take part in the event.

Besides the social intercourse, the chief features of the celebration were the responses made to the toasts and remarks by host and hostess. Nelson Bradway presided as toastmaster and drew out responses as follows:

C.E. Cary—The Morning of Life
Emerson Brown—The Noon of Life.
L.T. Genung—Fifty Years of Married Life.

All of these toasts were handled in a happy manner—sometimes in a humorous vein with now and then a touch of banter, and again dropping into pathos.

Following the toast was a most entertaining poem prepared and read by Miss Emma L. Kellogg, “Golden Wedding Chimes.” In this poem Miss Kellogg carried the vision of her bearers back to the wedding day and then down through the years to the present time. Aside from their application to the present event, the verses were a most creditable production, and Miss Kellogg should be encouraged to call frequently upon her muse for more like them.

Mrs. Emerson Brown presented Mr. Ronemus with a handsome pin, and Mrs. Ronemus with a gold beaded cane. She allotted them in this way for use when either party should misbehave; but suggested an exchange whenever they go out on dress parade.

Mr. and Mrs. Ronemus both had something to say in reply to all the good wishes showered upon them. Mr. Ronemus told how he was born in Virginia and went to Ohio when a young man. There he met and was fascinated by a pretty black-eyed Buckeye girl whom he married Nov. 18, 1852, and their married life has been one continued courtship.
