Last Will and Testament of Hans H. Retelsdorf
I, Hans H. Retelsdorf, of the City of Glenwood, in the County of Mills and State of Iowa, having attained the age of eighty one (81) years on the 31st day of March A.D. 1907, and being at this time of sound disposing mind and memory, do make this my last will and testament, hereby revoking all former wills by me at any time made.
I give devise and bequeath all property which I may own at the time of decease, and at this time consisting wholly of money and promisory notes payable to me, as follows, that is to say:
One..I direct that all my just debts, including the expense attending my last sickness and burial owing by me at my decease shall be paid by my executors out of my estate as soon after my decease as is possible.
Two..Having heretofore in my life time made advancements of money to certain ones of my children, and desiring that all of my children shall share equally my estate, I now devise and bequeath my said estate to said children, after the payment of the expenses enumerated in paragraph 1 above, as follows:
Three..To my daughter Ellen Robrahn, I give and bequeath the sum of Four Hundred Dollars ($400) in money; but I hold her note signed by herself and her husband John Robrahn for Twenty five hundred dollars ($2500) and interest, and the said interest according to the terms of said notes, is to be paid annually to me so long as I shall live, and at my death the principal and any unpaid interest due on said notes is to be estimated as a part of my estate and all amounts in excess of the bequest herein made is to be paid to the executors of my estate.
Four..To my son Frank J. Retelsdorf, I give and bequeath the sum of Four Hundred Dollars ($400) in money.
Five..To my daughter Anna Brown, I give and bequeath the sum of Four Hundred Dollars ($400) in money; but I hold her notes signed by herself and her husband C. B. Brown for Four Hundred Dollars ($400) and interest, and the said interest according to the terms of said notes, is to be paid annually to me as long as I shall live, and at my death the principal and any unpaid interest due on said notes is to be estimated as a part of my estate, and all amounts in excess of the bequest herein made is to be paid to the executors of my estate.
Six..To my son Henry F. Retelsdorf, I give and bequeath the sum of Two Hundred Dollars ($200) in money.
Seven..To my son Pervines Retelsdorf, I give and bequeath the sum of Two Hundred Dollars ($200) in money.
Eight..To my son John H. Retelsdorf, I give and bequeath the sum of Four Hundred Dollars ($400) in money; but I hold his note for One Hundred Dollars ($100) and interest, and the said interest, according to the terms of said note, is to be paid annually to me so long as I shall live, and at my death the principal and any unpaid interest due on said note is to be estimated as a part of my estate, and applied by my executors in the payment of the bequest herein made.
Nine..To my daughter, Lydia Herman, I give and bequeath the sum of Four Hundred Dollars ($400) in money.
Ten..To my son George T. Retelsdorf, I give and bequeath the sum of Two Hundred Dollars ($200) in money; but I hold his note signed by himself and his wife Madge Retelsdorf for One Hundred and Forty Dollars ($140) and interest, and the said interest, according to the tenor of said note, is to be paid annually to me as long as I shall live, and at my death the principal and any unpaid interest due on said note is to be estimated as a part of my estate, and applied by my executors in the payment of the bequest herein made.
Eleven..In the event that at my death and after the payment of the expenses enumerated in paragraph 1 hereof, and the costs and expense of administration of my estate, there should not be sufficient money left to enable my executors to pay the bequets herein made in full, then in that case it is my wish and will that each be paid a proportion of the money in my estate based on the ratio that their respective shares herein bequeathed bears to the whole amount in the hands of my executors of my estate to pay the same. Any money in my estate over and above the aggregate amount of the bequests herein made, I will that my executors pay to my said children in the same proportions as herein named.
Twelve..In the event of the death of any one of my said children before coming into possession of their share of my estate herein bequeathed, it is my wish and will that in case such deceased child shall leave no issue that the share that would have gone to such child deceased, shall be equally divided among the surviving children and the children of any deceased son or daughter. And in the event of the death of any one of my said children before coming into possession of their estate herein bequeathed leaving children surviving him or her, then in that case it is my wish and will that the share that would have gone to such child so deceased shall go to their children to be divided among the children of such deceased child share and share alike.
Thirteen..I hereby nominate and appoint my three sons, Frank J. Retelsdorf, Pervines Retelsdorf and George T. Retelsdorf, as executors of this my last will and testament, and it is my wish that they be permitted by the Court to be allowed to qualify and administer my estate without being required to give bond.
In witness whereof, I have to this my last will and testament, consisting of three sheets of typewritten paper, subscribed my name this 13th day of July A.D. 1907.

We hereby certify that on this 13th day of July A.D. 1907, at the City of Glenwood, in the County of Mills and State of Iowa, Hans H. Retelsdorf, to us personally known, did in our presence, sign the foregoing instrument and declare the same to be his last will and testament; and we, at his request, and in his presence, and in the presence of each other, do hereunto subscribe our names at witnesses thereto.
