I am a great-great-grandson of Nikolaus Amendt who came to the US and Illinois in the early 1850s He then sent for sent for his brothers John and Sebestian and mother. Their parents were Anton and Catharina Elisabeth Geisel of Germany.

Niklaus and his mother, Catherina are buried here in Eleroy, Illinois. His brother John, the father of Adam and Nicholaus Marcellus, is also buried near here as well as a sister, Margaret Bender.

Some lady shared all of Adam Amendt's large family with me but I don't recall her name. I'd like to share some of the information I have from Germany in 1644.

I remember several Iowa Amendt's coming to visit my grandfather. Gustav and Tillie of Marshalltown as well as Louis and Vena from Peterson, Iowa visiting when I was younger.

I took my grandparents out to Marshalltown many years ago for a funeral. We stayed at a Richard Amendts for the night.

I sent to Germany for this information and it should be shared with the rest of our Amendt families here in the midwest.
