WHELAN, NUGENT

Elizabeth NUGENT was born about 1828 in County Galway, Ireland. She married John WHELAN but I have no date or place. They were the parents of George (abt 1857), Richard (abt 1859), Mary (abt 1860), William (abt 1862), Thomas (abt 1865) and John (abt 1867). The family lived in Muscatine Co, Iowa for the 1870 federal census. They were in Jasper Co., Iowa in 1880.

I have reason to believe they also lived in Powesheik Co., Iowa for a short time before finally settling in Marshall Co., Iowa.

I found an Elizabeth WHELAN dying 03 Jun 1916 at age 87 in Marshall Co. I also found a John WHELAN dying 12 Dec 1890 at age 62 in Marshall Co. Both are buried in the Prairie View Cemetery, Gilman, Iowa.

A Thomas J. WHELAN, 1865-1929 is buried in Graceland, Laurel, Marshall Co., Iowa. Surely he is their son.

A son or grandson was an attorney in Marshalltown. I have no dates, only family oral history.
