Noue Lamont Goodman died peacefully September 23, 2012, under the skilled and loving care of Iowa River Hospice and Bickford Cottage. Services will be held at First Baptist Church, 700 East Olive Street, Marshalltown, Iowa commencing Sunday, September 30, 2012, with a visitation from 1:30 to 3 p.m., funeral services from 3 to 4 p.m. followed by a time of fellowship at Elmwood Country Club from 4 to 6 p.m.

Memorials can be directed to P.E.O. Chapter JU, Iowa River Hospice or Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center Foundation.

Noue Lamont Goodman was born January 3, 1923, to Thomas Stanley Lamont and Christina Grant Lamont in Auckland, New Zealand. Noue grew up in pre World War II New Zealand and was active both in sports (cricket) and dance. By her own admission, during her early teenage years, she was a better cricket player than dancer. She was an accomplished tomboy. This would make her a great mother for three rambunctious sons.

As she reached graduation from high school in World War II, Auckland, New Zealand, she was fortunate enough to get hired by the pay master's office of the Third Marine Division which was stationed in Auckland, New Zealand for the duration of the war. At the conclusion of the war, following VJ Day, Noue moved to Detroit, Michigan and later lived in Cleveland, Ohio working as a bank teller and bookkeeper. Four of her girlfriends from New Zealand lived in the upper Midwestern United States after the war. As it happened in 1948, one of her friends was Pat Marble who was married to Dr. Edwin Marble who practiced in the Marshalltown Medical Clinic in Marshalltown, Iowa. Practicing with Edwin Marble were Drs. Willard Marble, Rodney Wells, Milo Jeffries and Marshalltown's most eligible bachelor, Lawrence O. Goodman. Over the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday, Noue came to Marshalltown and met Marshalltown's most eligible bachelor. Lawrence Goodman often said that he had to go halfway around the world to find the girl that was right for him. The truth of the matter was she came halfway around the world to Marshalltown. Lawrence Goodman felt that he was the "luckiest man alive." Lawrence and Noue were married on April 20, 1949, in the First Baptist Church in Marshalltown. They later honeymooned in New Orleans. Noue was the most supportive wife a doctor could hope to have. Born of this marriage were James Lamont Goodman, Richard Bruce Goodman and Jeffrey Lawrence Goodman.

In spite of her busy family life, Noue was an active member of the Marshalltown community participating in civic and charitable organizations. She was a past school board member, a past Director of the Pleasant Hill School Board, a member of Chapter JU/P.E.O., PTA, EntreNous, a member of First Baptist Church, a past Director of the United Way Campaign and the Iowa Children's Home. Noue was an active conservative Republican.

Left to mourn her passing are her three sons, Jim (Dianne) Goodman, Marshalltown, Iowa; Rick (Kathleen) Goodman, Kirkland, Washington; Jeff (Liz) Goodman, Des Moines, Iowa as well as five grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Preceding her in death was her husband, Dr. Lawrence O. Goodman and her sister, Joan McDougall. ~ The Des Moines (IA) Register Fri 28 Sept 2012.
