Robert A. Wardman Dies After Stroke

Robert A. Wardman, 1510 Summit street, died at his home at 9:15 p. m. Monday. He suffered a stroke Monday afternoon, but had been in poor health for a number of years. Born April 11, 1870, at Bradford, Ont., Canada, a son of Christopher and Eleanor Wardman, he moved with his parents to Marietta township when he was 6 years old and grew to manhood there. Later he attended Grinnell college for two years. He married Ruthanna Vale March 8, 1894, in Marshalltown. After their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Wardman settled on a farm in Marietta township where they lived 13 years before moving to 1510 Summit street in this city. He was the father of seven children, six of whom, and the widow survive. The surviving daughters and son are Mrs. James Marks of New York City, Mrs. Alex Sutherland of Richlea, Sask., Canada, Cleaver Wardman of Minneapolis, Minn., Mrs. Wesley L. Haines of Hot Springs, S. D., Mrs Don Thornburg of Hollywood, Calif., and Mrs, C.. E. Ware of this city. One brother and one sister, Chris Wardman and Mrs. Margaret Newby, both of Marshalltown, also survive. One son, Lucien, who died in infancy, a sister, Mrs. Fannie Bosworth of Pennsylvania, and a brother, William Wardman of Wellington, Kan., preceded him in death. He also leaves 13 grandchildren. Mr. Wardman was a member of the First Presbyterian church. The body was removed to the Estel funeral home, pending word from the daughters, Mrs. Sutherland and Mrs. Marks, the latter now on her way back to New York after being here to see her father last week, leaving, Saturday.
