Carol W. (Clemons) Kapaun of Parker, CO passed away at home on Friday, January 2, 2015 surrounded by her loving family. Services will be held Saturday, 1/10/15 at Horan and McConaty, 11150 E. Dartmouth Ave, Aurora, CO. Friends and family are invited to gather in the chapel from 2:00pm to 3:00pm. Funeral services will begin at 3:00pm with a reception to follow. Carol was born in Marshalltown, IA on August 2, 1956. She was the youngest of 4 daughters of Wallace and Juanita Clemons. Carol graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1974. While in high school she was elected Worthy Advisor of the local chapter of The International Order of the Rainbow for Girls. She attended Morningside College in Sioux City, IA and transferred to Florida State University, Tallahassee where she earned a B.Sc. in Management in 1982. She was united in marriage on July 31, 1976 to James (Casey) Kapaun and was the loving mother of their son Thomas. After completing her degree, Carol was employed for 2 years at the State of Florida Department of Revenue as a computer programmer. She then began a 28 year career at IBM as a systems engineer and later as a PMI certified project manager. While at IBM she received the IBM Golden Circle award in recognition of her outstanding performance. After retiring from IBM she was active in the Rocky Mountain Information Management Association (RMIMA), was an officer for Information Systems Security Association (ISSA) and devoted much of her time to the Colorado chapter of the National Center for Women & Information Technology (NCWIT), encouraging high school girls to pursue careers in IT. Carol enjoyed entertaining her family and friends, cooking, traveling, the performing arts and orchids. She also enjoyed fishing, observing wildlife, her cat Rambo and was a fan of the Colorado Rockies. Carol is survived by her husband Casey, son Thomas, sisters Nancy Walker and Beth (Jim) Lyman. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Ruth Clemons. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to National Jewish Health, PO Box 5898, Denver, CO 80217.
