GUMMERT, 82, DIES FRIDAY; RITES MONDAY

William Gummert, 82, 107 N. 4th St., and a lifelong resident of Marshall County, died at 1:40 p.m. Friday at Evangelical hospital where he had been a patient since Dec. 16. He had been in rapidly failing health for the last year. He was born on a farm southwest of Dillon Oct. 12, 1871, the son of August and Monica Serra Gummert and received his education in the schools of that community. Mr. Gummert was baptized and confirmed in the Trinity Lutheran Church at Dillon in 1889. ON FEBRUARY 1, 1894, he was married to Bertha Neuse and the couple made their home on a farm southwest of Dillon where they lived until moving to Marshalltown 31 years ago. He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church. Preceding him in death were a son in infancy and a brother, John. SURVIVING are the widow, three children, Fred and Wilbur Gummert, and Mrs. Alfred Harem, all of Route 4, seven grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. Also surviving are three brothers and one sister, Henry, Whittier, Calif., Rhinehart of this city, Wilbert of Gilman, and Mrs. Anne Young, Marshalltown. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Redeemer Lutheran Church in charge of the pastor, the Rev. E. L. Runge. Burial will be in the Dillon Cemetery. Friends may call at the Estel-Perrin Funeral Home until 9:30 a.m. Monday.
