Funeral services for Edgar E. Whaley, who died Wednesday noon at Evangelical Deaconess hospital, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at First Friends church in charge of Rev. Orval H. Cox. Burial will be in Riverside. Mr. Whaley was credited as being the oldest native of Marshalltown. He was born May 28, 1858 in Marshalltown and at the age of five the family moved to a farm near Ferguson. When he was 20 he returned to Marshalltown where he worked as a blacksmith. He was married to Emma Hampton on Sept. 11, 1881 in Marshalltown and she died Feb. 5, 1920. They lived for a short time in Des Moines and then moved to LeGrand where he followed the blacksmith trade for a time and also engaged in farming. He returned to Marshalltown in 1918. He was a member of the Friends church. Survivors include a daughter, Pearle, at home, a brother, John B. Whaley, 95, of Marshalltown, and two granddaughters and one great granddaughter. A son Floyd died in 1924 and a daughter, Alverta, died in 1946.
