Mrs. Eliza Lyda Woodard, 79, 120 East State street, died Saturday night at 11 o'clock at the Evangelical Deaconess hospital where she had been a patient for four weeks. She had been in failing health for the past two years. Death was caused by complications due to her advanced age. Mrs. Woodard was born Eliza Brown, daughter of Andrew and Mary Brown, Aug. 22, 1867 in Martinsville, Clinton county, Ohio. When she was 2 years old she came with her parents to Marshall county where she had lived all but 12 years. She was married Sept. 10, 1884, to Melvin Woodard and she went to the Woodard homestead, 1 3/4 miles east of Lamoille as a bride. They lived there and in that neighborhood until 1904 when they moved to North Dakota for two years and then to Wausa, Neb., where Mr. Woodard died in 1915. A year later Mrs. Woodard returned to Marshalltown where she had lived since. Mr. and Mrs. Woodard were the parents of six children. A son Merritt was drowned, July 13, 1919, in Wynot, Neb., when he was 20 and a daughter, Mrs. F. L. Heath, died in Chicago, Ill., at the age of 39. Surviving are Mrs. C. B. Case of this city, Mrs. C. O. Sammuelson of Wausa, Neb., Mrs. H. W. Remerscheld of Hollywood, Calif., and Harold C. Woodard of Clinton. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, three great grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. Lou Irvin of this city and Mrs. Lydia Allen of Des Moines. Two brothers, E. C. and C. J. Brown, both engineers on the M. & St. L. railroad preceded her in death. Mrs. Woodard was a member of the Central Church of Christ, the Woman's council and the Loyal Woman's Bible class of that church, Electric Rebekah lodge No. 331, and the Degree of Honor Protective association.
