FRED BUTLER DIES AT HIS HOME NEAR MARSHALLTOWN

Fred C. Butler, 67, a life long resident of Marshall county, died at his home eight miles south of Marshalltown at 5:45 a.m. Sunday. Mr. Butler's illness had been long standing but had become serious last August. For the past few months, he had been bedfast. Mr. Butler was born in Marshalltown, Oct. 5, 1875, a son of Alonzo Butler, pioneer blacksmith, and Mary Church Butler. He was a telegraph operator until moving to the present home in 1908. In 1895 he married May Morrison at Bromley, where they lived for several years. They then moved to Clemons where they resided until moving to the present home. Surviving are six children, Lyle of Madrid, Morris of Fort Still, Okla., Earl of Marshalltown, Mrs. Ray Idso of Clemons, Mrs. O. V. Speas and Mrs. Harold Elsberry of Marshalltown. Also surviving are three brothers, T. S. Butler of Radcliffe, Albert Butler of Clemons, and Orrin Butler of Fort Morgan, Col., fourteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Mrs. Butler preceded him in death Nov. 14, 1942. Mr. Butler was a director of the Marshall County Mutual Fire Insurance association and also served as a member of the board of directors at the time the Ferguson consolidated school was built and for a number of years was secretary to that school board. The body will remain at the Estel funeral home until Tuesday afternoon when it will be taken to the family home where a prayer service will be held at 1:15 Wednesday afternoon, followed by funeral services at the Ferguson Christian church at 2 o'clock. Both services will be in charge of Rev. Frederick Cooper of Winterset. Burial will be in Riverside.
