LEGRAND MAN DIES AFTER LONG ILLNESS

Elwood Ankrum died at his home in LeGrand at 2:45 a.m. Tuesday after an illness of one month. He had been in failing health for the past eight years. The cause of death was heart complications. He was born June 12, 1873, at Minerva, Marshall county, a son of John and Elizabeth Ankrum. He married Carrie Willcuts Nov. 6, 1895, at the old Jackson farm near Hartland, now the Harry Moninger farm. After their marriage the family home was at Eldora for seven years, then they moved back to the old home place at Hartland, where they lived until 1909 when they moved to a farm near Heaton, N.D. In 1934, they moved to the home of their daughter, Mrs. Clarence Hartwell, in LeGrand. In November, 1939, they moved to their own home in LeGrand. Surviving are the widow, a son, John Ankrum of Heaton, N.D., six daughters, Mrs. Fern Mullvain of Oberon, N.D., Mrs. Clarence Hartwell of LeGrand, Mrs. Elizabeth Laudenslager of Heaton, N.D., Mrs. Elsie Smith of Coppertown, N.D., Mrs. Florence Hambleton of Missoula, Mont. and Mrs. Beulah Seibel of Heaton, N.D., and 12 grandchildren. His parents and five brothers and one sister preceded him in death. Two sisters, Mrs. Armina Nichols of Waseca, Minn., and Mrs. Clara Carey of Marshalltown, and two brothers, Harrison and Ilo Ankrum of Marahalltown, also survive. Mr. Ankrum was a member of the Congregational church of Heaton. The body will be taken from Estel's funeral home here to the home in LeGrand Wednesday morning and will be returned Thursday morning to the funeral home where services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in charge of Rev. C. W. Cleveland. Burial will be in the Friends cemetery at LeGrand.
