RUSSELL SMITH DIES IN TEXAS; RITES THURSDAY

Services for Russell A. Smith, 64, formerly of 510 Bromley st., will be at Estel funeral home at 1 p.m. Thursday, with burial following in the Miller cemetery southwest of Union. Smith died Sunday morning in Fort Worth, Texas. The son of Wesley and Arvilla Smith, he was born March 4, 1888, near Whitten and attended schools in that area. In 1912 he was married to Viola Jane Rash at Whitten and they farmed near Union and Whitten. MRS. SMITH died in 19131 and in 1936 Smith moved to Marshalltown where he resided until moving to Texas a year ago. He was married to Mrs. Lelah Thorne in 1945. While in Marshalltown he was employed at Lennox Furnace company until poor health forced his retirement. SURVIVING ARE his widow; five sons, Leslie in Waterloo, Henry in Shell Rock, Clarence in Clemons, Leonard in Union and Erol in Laurel; two daughters, Mrs. Glen Moore of Pacomia, Calif., and Mrs. Lee Fisher Jr., of Forth Worth, Texas; three brothers, Roy of LaPorte, Col., Jim in Ware, Iowa, and Ray in Hurley; three sisters, Mrs. H. H. Carson, Mrs. William Marvis and Mrs. Wilma Rodgers, all of Marshalltown; a stepson, Floyd Thornes of Fort Worth, and 20 grandchildren. The body is scheduled to arrive in Marshalltown early Tuesday.
