State Center---(Special)---Mrs. Charles M. Gilgen died at 2 a.m. Sunday at the Emma Wohlert hospital were she had been a patient since last November. Mrs. Gilgen was born Anna Marie Meyer, daughter of Frederick and Mary Stock Meyer, in Germany, Sept. 18, 1864, and came to America in infancy. She spent all of her life in Marshall and Jasper counties. She was married to Mr. Gilgen Nov. 12, 1888, and they settled on a farm four miles south of Melbourne. Later they moved to a farm four miles northeast of Melbourne and in 1914 move to State Center where they since resided. Mrs. Gilgen was the mother of six children, one son, Raymond E., preceding her in death. Surviving are Will Gilgen and Mrs. Arthur Diggins of Melbourne, Roy Gilgen of State Center, Mrs. Clara Ingebritson and Mrs. Wesley Cooper of Marshalltown. Also surviving are Mr. Gilgen, one sister, Mrs. Elmer Goodhue of Carlisle, one brother, Adolph Meyer of Des Moines, 15 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. One other grandson, Bud Diggins, son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Diggins, died in service in Italy. The body will remain at the Wensel funeral home until Wednesday morning when it will be taken to the home where a prayer service will be held at 1 p.m. that day. The funeral will be held at the Presbyterian church here at 2 p.m. with burial following in the Melbourne cemetery.
