Marshalltown, IA [1-2-1956] p. 7MRS. FAIRCLOTH KILLED IN AUTO CRASH FRIDAY
Mrs. A. S. (Eunice) Faircloth, 49, died of head and internal injuries at 5:30 p.m. Friday at Evangelical Hospital after the car in which she was riding crashed into a bridge abutment on a county road less than two miles west of Melbourne. Driver of the car was her son, William J. B. Faircloth, 16. The Marshall County Sheriff's office reported young Faircloth passed another car, lost control of his own vehicle in loose gravel, and went into the abutment. The car then jumped a small creek, landing on the other side. THE 1946 FORD was a total loss. The accident occurred about 4:30 p.m. Friday, less than one-fourth mile from the Faircloth farm home. It was estimated Faircloth was traveling 60 miles an hour at the time of the accident. Young Faircloth suffered head and chest injuries and was in good condition at Evangelical Hospital Saturday. X-rays were to be taken later Saturday to determine the exact extent of his injuries. Driver of the car which Faircloth passed was unidentified but the sheriff's office reported the driver stopped and gave assistance at the scene. The injured were first treated by a Melbourne doctor and later brought to Evangelical Hospital. SERVICES FOR Mrs. Faircloth will be from the Melbourne Methodist Church at 2:30 p.m. Monday with burial in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. The body is at the Ryan Funeral Home in Melbourne. Eunice Blanche Faircloth was born Feb. 17, 1907, at Kellogg, the daughter of John W. and Dolly Shill. She is survived by the widower, Arthur S. Faircloth and four daughters and three sons. They are Mrs. Herbert Waltemeyer, Mrs. Donald Rittierodt, and Mrs. Merlyn Schuler, State Center, Mrs. Richard VanZwol, and Russell Faircloth, Marshalltown, and William and Jacob, at home. Seven grandchildren also survive. Other survivors are two sisters, Mrs. Burr Doane, Robbinsdale, Minn., and Mrs. Marion Paul, Anamosa; three brothers, Harold Shill, Laurel, Wesley Shill, Cambridge, and Clarence Shill, Marshalltown.
