MRS. DOWNS, 83, DIES TUESDAY; RITES THURSDAY

Mrs. Harriet Downs, 83, Bundy Apartments, died at the Evangelical hospital Tuesday morning where she had been a patient since March 23. Death was attributed to a heart condition. SHE WAS born May 7, 1872, on a farm near Garwin, the daughter of Thomas and Margaret Rockey. When she was young the family moved to Marshalltown where she received her education in the public schools. For the last 80 years she had made her home here. In 1904 she was married to T. Nelson Downs, who was a well known magician. He died in 1937. Mrs. Downs was also preceded in death by a sister and three brothers. SURVIVING ARE several nieces and nephews, Walter Rockey of Chicago, Mrs. Phyllis Smith of Downey, Calif., Mrs. M. D. Stanley of Marshalltown and Lester Rockey of Des Moines. Four grand nieces and nephews also survive. Services will be held from the Estel-Perrin Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Thursday in charge of the Rev. H. M. Raecker, pastor of the Grace Evangelical U-B Church. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery.
