Marvel Stalzer April 19, 1926 - June 7, 2014

Marvel Stalzer, 88, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, June 7, 2014 surrounded by her family at Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center.

Funeral services for Marvel will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at Redeemer Lutheran Church with Pastor Alex Post officiating. Public visitation will be held one hour prior to services, where Marvel’s family will be present to greet family and friends.

Marvel Wolken was born on April 19, 1926 in Dillon, Iowa, the daughter of Harry and Emma (Funke) Wolken. She was raised and educated in the La Moille, Dunbar and Marshalltown school systems. Marvel was united in marriage to the love of her life Urban E. Stalzer on April 21, 1947, at the Immaculate Conception Church in Haverhill, Iowa. From this union six children were born.

Marvel was employed with Marshalltown Manufacturing prior to raising her family. After all of the children were raised she worked for the Marshalltown school system and Elim Luthern Church preparing meals for many years before working for K-Mart Corporation.

She had a passion for her family, especially her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchild. She enjoyed all kinds of sporting activities and her favorite teams to watch were the Iowa Hawkeyes and St. Louis Cardinals. Marvel loved to garden, travel, cook and attend card parties.

Left to cherish her memory are her children: Harlan (Sue) Stalzer of Rapid City, S.D., Karroll Stalzer of Marshalltown, IA, Susan (Kent) Perrin of St. Louis, MO, Bradley (Michelle) Stalzer of Newton, IA and Lana (John) Meiborg of St. Louis, MO; grandchildren: Todd Stalzer, Chad Stalzer, Dr. Ann Perrin, Blake Perrin, Zachary Theis, Morgan Stalzer, Brock and Chase Meiborg; four great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

She is preceded in death by her husband; one daughter: Mary; siblings: Martha Knott, Florence Harmon, K. Gerry Hartwig, Gladys Zink, Lois Escalante, Alice Goodman, Glen Wolken, Wallace Wolken and LaVern Wolken.
