Stanley 'Stan' Mikutis

Kellogg – Stanley “Stan” Mikutis, 65, of Kellogg, died of cancer, Sunday, Jan 2, at his home.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Newton with the Rev. Michael Carey, associate pastor of First United Methodist Church in Newton, officiating. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery in State Center.

There will be no visitation. The Wallace-Pence Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements. Memorials in Mr. Mikutis’ name or to Hospice of Jasper County will be accepted.

The son of Bruno Mikutis and Julia Rimeikis, he was born Aug. 11, 1934, in Chicago, Ill. He graduated from Marshalltown Senior High School in 1952, Marshalltown Community College in 1968, University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls in 1972 and earned his masters of science degree from the University of Iowa. He married Bonnie Henze May 30, 1959, in State Center.

A longtime resident of Marshalltown, he later moved to Newton before settling in Kellogg in 1990. Mr. Mikutis was employed as a science teacher by the Newton Community School District for 25 years. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving during the Korean conflict and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Newton. He was a licensed private pilot and enjoyed skiing, fishing and astronomy.

Survivors include his wife; a son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Lisa of Kellogg; two grandsons; his step-father, Wayne East of Albion; and his mother-in-law, Annabelle Henze of State Center.

He was preceded in death by his mother and a daughter. ~ Newspaper unknown, possibly The Des Moines Register or The Newton (IA) Daily News.
