Wentsel Rites Held in Conrad Sunday P.M.

Charles E. Wentsel, a long time resident of Marshall county and Vienna township, died Friday morning at the Deaconess hospital in Marshalltown where he had been a patient since last October.

Mr. Wentsel was born at Wilkes Barre, Pa., Nov. 20, 1856, and died on March 31, 1939, aged 82 years. He was the last surviving member of a family of six sons and one daughter.

When a young man he moved to Carroll County, Illinois, where he was married to Katherine Fahrney on July 1, 1881. In 1887 they moved to Marshall County, Iowa, which was their home for 33 years. In 1921 they moved to Conrad where he has lived for 18 years.

Mrs. Wentsel died in February 1936. Two daughters also have preceded him in death; one dying in infancy and the other, Myrtle, died in 1906 at the age of 18.

There remains to mourn his loss, a daughter, Mrs. Charles Stepp of Conrad; a son, Claude of East Grand Forks, Minn.; seven grandchildren, two great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 2 o’clock Sunday at the Alexander funeral home in Conrad with Rev. R. A. Hallett of the Methodist church officiating. Mrs. Ben Frederick sang “Lead Kindly Light” and “Abide With Me” with Miss Isabelle Stevens at the piano.

Pall bearers were C. M. Evans, Will Simms, W. G. Lounsberry, Leslie Kline, James Curry and Clifford Alexander.

The flowers were cared for by Mesdames Frank Miller, Leslie Kline and Will Simms.

Burial was made on the family lot in the Vienna cemetery.

Relatives from out of town who attended included Mr. and Mrs. Henry Bauman and son Bobby and Miss Molly Wentsel of Polo, Ill.; Miss Verna Derr and Mr. and Mrs. Falph Fahrney, Milledgeville, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Ed Fahrney and Mrs. Clara Freday of Oskaloosa; Miss Kathleen Stepp of Kansas City, Mo.; Mr. and Mrs. LuRae Stevens and John Stevens of Grundy Center and Mr. and Mrs. Leon Smith, Marshalltown.
