Rites For J. Gardner

Last rites for John Gardner, 70, Fairfield, will be held Monday at 3 p.m. at the Pursel-Davis Funeral Chapel in Marshalltown with Rabbi Sol Serber officiating. Burial will be at Melbourne.

Gardner died suddenly Friday morning at the home of his son, Roger Gardner, in Melbourne.

Gardner was born June 24, 1907 in Albion, the son of David and Neva Swearingen Gardner. He was reared and educated in Albion. On Nov. 20, 1929, he was married to Mary Fuller, who preceded him in death in 1975.

The deceased lived in the Marshalltown area until 1951 when he moved to Fairfield. He operated a trucking business before his retirement in 1972.

Surviving are the following children: John Gardner, Hulin, Ky.; Charles Gardner, Brazil, Ind.; Mrs. Mary Halverson, Marshalltown; Richard Gardner, Mt. Prospect, Ill.; Mrs. Martha Brockway, Conrad; Roger Gardner, Melbourne.

Also surviving are 27 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. Delores Paxson, Marshalltown; a brother, Dale Gardner, East Moline, Ill.; and a half-brother, James Paxson, Boston, Mass.
