RALPH D. EWALT, 82

Ralph D. “Ike” Ewalt, 82, of 801 East South St., formerly of 2669 260th St., Marshalltown, died Tuesday Oct. 16, at Mary Greeley Medical Center. Services will be held Saturday, Oct. 20, at Pursel-Davis Funeral Home and Crematory, at 1 p.m. with Minister Helmer Peterson and Pastor Kevin Ewalt, officiating. Visiting hours will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday, at Pursel-Davis Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Memorial Gardens, Marshalltown, with military honors provided by members of the American Legion. A memorial fund has been established in his name. Ralph was born Sept. 15, 1919, at Liscomb, the son of William Henry and Mary M. Gould Ewalt. He was raised and educated in the area of his birth. On Dec. 9, 1937, Ralph was united in marriage to Merna M. Ruch at Central Christian Church in Marshalltown. In 1944, he joined the United States Navy, serving overseas for sixteen months during World War II. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to Marshalltown where he began a 42 year career with Fisher Controls. He retired in 1982 in the tool making department. Ralph was a member of Frank Lewis Glick Post #46 of the American Legion, past board member of the Fisher Retirees, member of U.A.W. Local 893 of which he was in charge of the Union paper for 10 years. He enjoyed picking walnuts, playing golf, and going to auctions. Survivors include his wife Merna Ewalt, Marshalltown; son Richard (Patricia) Ewalt, Marshalltown; daughter Karen (Robert) Vinton, Whitten; son Donald (Royla) Ewalt, Marshalltown; daughter LaDonna (Brian) Runner, Laurel; 11 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Ronald Ewalt, sister Nellie Isgrig, and two twin grandsons Dwayne and Dwight.
