After a lengthy battle with pneumonia Richard Krier died Friday, January 14, 2011 at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines IA. Richard received wonderful care from Iowa Home Care for many years while he lived in his own home.

Richard Henry Krier was born March 5, 1952 in Sioux Falls SD to Raphael "Bud" and Janie (Barnhill) Krier. He graduated from Beaman-Conrad High School in 1970. He was married to Teri Burnham from 1971-1978 and they had two children. He later married Lynn Ballard. They were married for two years.

After high school Richard became an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and worked at the hospital for several years, eventually changing his career to roofer. On October 4, 1996, while working on a roof, he had an accident leaving him a paraplegic. Richard continued being a fun-loving guy after his accident. He loved the Hawkeyes and the Chicago Bears. He didn't let the accident interfere with his quality of life. He continued to make people happy by grilling his famous chicken or making his "Papa" spaghetti. Even without walking, he left his footprints on this Earth. We are all better for knowing him. It is not good-bye; it is see you later.

Surving: daughter Kasey (Nick) Canon, Hartsville SC; son Andrew (Linda) Krier, Urbandale IA; three grandchildren, Gage, Madeline and Benjamin Cannon, Hartsville SC; siblings, Peggy (Roger) Lowe, Carlisle IA; Phyllis Troutner, Dudley (Pam) Krier, Carla Brimson (Roger Dirks), Kevin (Kris Colwell) Krier, all of Marshalltown; Keith (Angie) Krier, Green Mountain IA; Kyle Krier, Prairie City IA; Ken (Andrea) Krier, Altoona IA. He was also uncle to 68 nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Patricia and Pamela.
