RITES WEDNESDAY FOR DR. HURD

Services for Dr. Frank Hurd, 72, Corvallis, Ore., who died Saturday at his home, will be at the Bethel Grove Church of Christ at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Charles Fry, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Bethel Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the Estel-Perrin Funeral Home from 2 p.m. Tuesday until 9 a.m. Wednesday and then at the church. Born May 17, 1909, at Pleasantville, he was the son of Harlan C. and Olive Long Hurd, who were longtime ministers. Dr. Hurd graduated from Drake, attended Iowa State and worked and studied at the University of Minnesota. He was a distinguished scientist and inventor and an early worker in atomic energy. Dr. Hurd had several patents on titanium and other rare metals. Surviving are the widow, Susan, a daughter and four sons, Harland Hurd of Oregon, John Hurd and Charles Hurd and Julie (Mrs. John) Ernst, all of Minneapolis, and Clayton Hurd of Corvallis, Ore. Also surviving are a brother, Cuthbert Hurd of Portolo Valley, Calif., and two grandchildren.
