JOSEPH GILSON OF RHODES, SUMMONED

Rhodes, July 30 --- (Special) --- Joseph Gilson, 84, died Saturday evening at 7:45 o'clock at his home south of Rhodes. Death was due to infirmities of old age. He had been an invalid three years and his condition had been serious the past two weeks. Mr. Gilson was born Dec. 30, 1850 at Titusville, Pa., and came to Iowa in a covered wagon with his mother and grandparents when he was 5 years of age, locating near Decorah. When he was a young man, he moved to Jasper county and had resided in Marshall county the past few years. Mr. Gilson married Miss Mary Hayes of Clyde in August 1873. They were the parents of five children, four of who survive: Charles of Polson, Mont., Leslie of Marshalltown; Mrs. Blanch Seeger of Grant's Pass, Ore., and Mrs. Leora Van Gilder of Des Moines. Wallace Gilson died at the age of 15 years. Mrs. Gilson passed away in 1889. Mr. Gilson was married Oct. 6, 1897 to Mary A. Parker. Besides his second wife he is survived by four step children, Carl Parker of Racine, Wis., Ralph Parker of Newton, Guy Parker of Laurel, Mrs. Addie Callahan, at home, and a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mr. Gilson was a member of the Three Quarters Century Club of Jasper county and of the Yeoman Lodge of Des Moines. Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon from the Boyd funeral home in Baxter in charge of Rev. Andy James of the Rhodes Methodist Protestant church. Burial will be in the Bethel cemetery near Baxter.
