---Mrs. Huldah Arney, Early Settler, Dies in Dakota---

Word was received Thursday by Mrs. J. L. Ralls, 108 West Church street, of the death of her mother, Mrs. Hulda Arney, at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Effie Walker, at Parker, S. D. Mrs. Arney, who was in her 92nd year, had been bedfast for five years, having suffered a broken hip, July 7, 1915, from a fall. Mrs. Arney was a pioneer settler of Marshall county, coming here with her husband, the late John Arney, in 1851. She was born in Owen county, Indiana, June 24, 1829, and was married to John Arney, in Indiana, July 26, 1849. Two years later they came to Iowa and settled near Liscomb. Mr. Arney died on the old home place, Jan. 11, 1904, after a residence of fifty-one years in the county. In 1906 Mrs. Arney went to Dakota to live with her daughter and had since made her home there. She was the last surviving member of her father’s family, a sister, Mrs. Eliza Irwin, of Whitten, having died a week ago today. She is survived by four children, George Arney, Parker, S. D.; Mrs. J. L. Ralls, city; Albert Arney, Woodworth, N. D., and Mrs. Effie Walker, Parker, S. D. Two children are dead. Mrs. Eliza Whitacre, of this city, is a niece. Mrs. Arney united with the Christian church in Indiana at the age of 18 and has always been active in church work. The body will be brought to Liscomb and funeral services will be held Saturday at Bethel Grove. Burial will be in the Bethel Grove cemetery.
